Our Profile
The Laboratory of Oral Cell Biology at the Department of Oral Surgery and Stomatology, University
of Bern, Switzerland, investigates clinically oriented mechanistic questions in oral hard and soft
tissue regeneration, including the functional characterization of autogenous bone, extraction socket
soft tissue, peri-implant tissues, bioactive substances, and regenerative materials. Our laboratory
contributes to the field of regenerative dental medicine, with a well-established record of research
publications. We are located in the state-of-the-art sitem-insel building on the Insel Campus Bern,
Switzerland, providing a collaborative research environment in close proximity to the University
Hospital and the broader University of Bern network.
The Challenge
We are offering a PhD position to a highly motivated student. The research project investigates the
impact of biomechanical stimulation, recreating the mechanical environment of bone tissue under
physiological and dental surgical conditions, on cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions involved in
early bone healing events. The project will utilize a variety of cell and molecular biological
techniques to investigate molecular interactions that provide instructive cues for osteogenesis and
osseointegration, with the aim of supporting personalized treatment approaches in dental
implantology.
Your Profile
• Master’s degree in Cell or Molecular Biology. Candidates with a Master’s degree in Dental
Medicine will also be considered.
• Previous experience in cell culture techniques (primary and immortalized cells), as well as cell
and molecular biological methods, is a strong asset.
• Additional experience in genomics, bioinformatics, imaging, and related image-analysis
technologies is advantageous but not required.
• Excellent command of written and spoken English.
• Ability to work both under supervision and independently, while contributing to a collaborative
team environment.
We offer
• A full-time PhD position funded according to SNSF regulations. Candidates who already hold an
external scholarship providing financial support for their PhD studies will have an advantage.
• The successful applicant will join a small research team within a collaborative research
environment and will be enrolled in the Graduate School for Cellular and Biomedical Sciences
